Valheim Boss Guide: Everything You Need to Know
Valheim features seven Forsaken bosses that must be defeated in order to progress through the game. Each boss is tied to a specific biome and drops unique items that unlock new crafting recipes, progression tools, and Forsaken Powers. Understanding the boss progression order is essential for any Viking looking to conquer the Tenth World.
Boss Progression Order
The bosses follow a fixed progression tied to biome difficulty. You start with Eikthyr in the Meadows, whose Hard Antler drop unlocks the Antler Pickaxe needed to mine Copper and Tin in the Black Forest. The Elder drops the Swamp Key to access Sunken Crypts for Iron. Bonemass rewards the Wishbone for finding Silver in the Mountains. Moder drops the Dragon Tear to build the Artisan Table for Plains-tier crafting. Yagluth provides the Torn Spirit for the Wisp Fountain, illuminating the Mistlands. The Queen yields the Majestic Carapace for late-game gear, and Fader is the final challenge in the Ashlands.
Forsaken Powers
Defeating each boss grants a Forsaken Power that can be activated at the sacrificial stones near spawn. Only one power can be active at a time, lasting 300 seconds with a 20-minute cooldown. Popular power choices include Eikthyr's stamina reduction for exploration, Bonemass's physical damage resistance for combat, and Moder's increased carry weight for building projects.
Boss Fight Tips
Every boss has specific weaknesses and resistances. Bring the right damage type: fire arrows for The Elder, blunt weapons (Iron Mace) for Bonemass, and fire damage for Moder. Always prepare your arena before summoning: flatten the terrain, place a portal and workbench nearby, and bring the best food available for your progression stage. Poison resistance mead is essential for Bonemass, and frost resistance is required for Moder's Mountain arena.
How to Summon Bosses
Each boss has a unique altar found within their biome. Locate the altar by finding Vegvisir runestones in dungeons and structures throughout the world. Place the required summoning items on the altar to begin the fight. Summoning items range from common (Deer Trophies for Eikthyr) to rare (Dragon Eggs for Moder, which weigh 200 each and cannot be teleported).
