Key takeaways
  • Mistiles only come from Dvergr Support Mages, the yellow-robed casters, once the Dvergr turn hostile.
  • They have 1 HP: any hit except Chop, Pickaxe or Spirit pops them.
  • Each one explodes for 150 Blunt, and three at once can deal 450.
  • Kill the Support Mage first; it also heals and buffs the other Dvergr.
  • Wide-arc weapons like Atgeirs pop Mistiles while you fight everything else.

What Is a Mistile?

If you have picked a fight with a Dvergr settlement, a Mistile has probably hit you, even if you did not know what it was. These glowing homing orbs are summoned only by Dvergr Support Mages, the yellow-robed casters guarding Dvergr structures.

Mistiles are minions, in the same category as the Roots from the Staff of the Wild and the Skeletts from the Dead Raiser. The difference is that Mistiles work against you.

A glass cannon

A glowing ball drifting through the fog does not look threatening until it hits you for 150 Blunt. Mistiles track you, home in relentlessly and detonate on contact, destroying themselves.

They have 1 HP, so any attack pops them. The trouble is that they are small, fast and arrive up to three at a time while other Dvergr are already attacking you.

One HP. One hundred and fifty damage. Mistiles are the definition of a glass cannon, and in the fog of the Mistlands, you often will not see them coming until they are already in your face.

How Mistiles Spawn and Behave

Mistiles never spawn naturally. A hostile Support Mage smashes its staff into the ground to conjure 1 to 3 Mistiles within 3 meters of itself. It repeats this every 35 seconds while you are 1 to 15 meters away, with up to 9 active at once.

Homing and detonation

Once spawned, a Mistile tracks the nearest player and adjusts its path as you move. Within 1 meter of you it detonates in a 1.5-meter sphere for its full damage. There is no lingering effect or status ailment, just one sudden burst.

Part of a bigger toolkit

The Support Mage also has two support spells:

  • Buff: +20% to all Skills for nearby Dvergr for 20 seconds (45-second cooldown).
  • Heal: 400 HP over 4 seconds to allies in range (10-second cooldown).

It makes the other Dvergr harder to kill while throwing orbs at you, so killing it first is almost always right.

Veteran Tip

When you aggro a Dvergr settlement, identify the Support Mage first. It is the one in the yellow-brown robe. Kill it before the Fire and Ice Mages if possible, because every 35 seconds it stays alive means another wave of Mistiles plus heals and buffs for its allies. A single well-placed arrow can end the Mistile threat at its source.

When You Will Meet Mistiles

Dvergr are neutral by default. They leave you alone and fight Seekers and Gjall on sight. Mistiles only appear once you provoke them, and Mistlands progression almost always makes you do that.

The usual trigger

Most players turn the Dvergr hostile raiding a Dvergr Component Crate. It holds the Dvergr Extractor for the Sap Extractor, and Sap is needed for Refined Eitr at the Eitr Refinery. Damage any structure near a Dvergr Ward and every Dvergr nearby turns hostile, Support Mages included.

Where the mages are

Dvergr Mages, Support Mages included, guard:

  • Guard Towers
  • Lighthouses
  • Excavation Sites
  • Harbours

They are one-time placements and do not respawn, so a cleared settlement stays free of Mistiles. Mages can be 1-star or 2-star, but their Mistiles always deal the same damage.

How to Deal with Mistiles

Any hit except Chop, Pickaxe or Spirit destroys a Mistile instantly: an arrow, a melee swing, even stray area damage. The challenge is noticing them in time while everything else in the Mistlands is trying to kill you.

Melee sweeps

Wide swing arcs are your best friend. The Himminafl and other Atgeirs catch incoming Mistiles while you fight other enemies, and the wide secondary attack of Krom works too. Anything that covers a large area pops Mistiles without targeting each one.

Ranged attacks

Spot them early and a quick bow shot or crossbow bolt removes them before they arrive. That takes awareness that is hard to keep with Fire Mages throwing Fireballs at you. Area staves like the Staff of Embers or Staff of Frost also destroy Mistiles caught in the blast.

Rush the summoner

Killing the Support Mage fast works best. Its Mistile summon needs at least 1 meter of distance, so getting in its face limits it to a weak 70 Blunt melee poke. It resists only Fire and Frost and is immune to Spirit, with no physical resistances, so a few solid hits from a Black Metal or Mistlands-tier weapon end it.

Blocking and dodging

A Mistile that reaches you is survivable with endgame food and decent armor, and a good shield can block it entirely. Dodge rolling through them works too, but not reliably when several converge from different angles. The real danger is Mistile damage stacking with Fireballs, Icebolts and Dvergr Rogue crossbow shots.

Common Mistake

A common mistake is ignoring Mistiles because they look harmless or because you are too focused on the mages themselves. 150 Blunt damage is no joke, especially when three of them converge on you at once. That is potentially 450 damage in a split second. Always keep an eye out for glowing orbs drifting toward you during Dvergr fights.

Understanding the Dvergr Support Mage

The Support Mage is one of three Dvergr Mage types and arguably the most dangerous in a long fight, because it keeps its allies alive while pressuring you with Mistiles.

How to recognise each mage

  • Support Mage: yellow-and-brown robe lined with gold, staff tipped with a Dvergr Lantern
  • Fire Mage: red robe and a fiery staff
  • Ice Mage: blue robe and a frost-tipped staff

Colours are hard to read in thick fog, but spotting the Support Mage quickly saves a lot of pain.

Its full ability set

Buff covers an 8-meter radius and Heal a 4.32-meter radius. Only the Mistiles deal damage, but healing allies through your damage while sending orbs at you makes the Support Mage the linchpin of any Dvergr group.

How to Clear a Dvergr Settlement Safely

  1. 1

    Scout the settlement

Before provoking anyone, circle the structure and count the Dvergr and their types. Find the yellow-robed Support Mage, count the crossbow-wielding Rogues, and note where the Fire and Ice Mages stand.

  2. 2

Open with a ranged shot on the Support Mage

If you have line of sight before the fight starts, open with your strongest ranged attack. A fully drawn Spinesnap or a crossbow bolt takes a big chunk of its 350 HP. Killing it before the others close in removes the Mistiles, the healing and the damage buff in one go.

  3. 3

    Handle incoming Mistiles

If it gets a cast off, watch for glowing orbs appearing near it and drifting toward you. One melee swing destroys each, and an Atgeir or other wide-arc weapon often pops several at once. Do not let them pile up while you focus elsewhere.

  4. 4

    Mop up the remaining Dvergr

Without the Support Mage, the Fire and Ice Mages are dangerous but predictable. Fire Mages wind up their Clusterbomb slowly, and Ice Mages slam their staff before a Nova. Dodge or block, then close in: in melee range any Dvergr Mage is limited to its weak 70 Blunt staff poke.

  5. 5

    Loot the settlement

Destroy the Ward and loot freely. Dvergr Mages drop Coins (2-14), Black Marble (50% chance), Soft Tissue (25% chance) and the rare Dvergr Trophy (5%). Break Component Crates for the Dvergr Extractor. These Dvergr do not respawn, so the area stays safe.

Meta Strategy

Here is something worth considering: keep your first Dvergr settlement friendly. The Dvergr will actively fight Seekers, Gjall, and other Mistlands threats that wander near their structures. Having a friendly Dvergr outpost nearby your base provides free protection. Only raid a settlement when you absolutely need the Dvergr Extractor or other resources, and ideally pick one that is farther from your base.

Mistiles Compared to Other Minions

Mistiles are purely enemy-side: you cannot summon them. Skeletts from the Dead Raiser and Roots from the Staff of the Wild persist and fight as creatures, while Mistiles are single-use projectiles that exist only to close distance and explode.

Mistiles vs Ticks

The closest comparison is the Tick dropped by Gjall. Both are small, easy to kill and punishing if ignored. Ticks attach and drain health over time, while a Mistile delivers all its damage at once. That single hit can be blocked, but three simultaneous impacts can burst you down before you react.

The bottom line

One Mistile is trivial. In a full settlement fight, with Clusterbombs, freezing Icebolts, Rogue crossbow bolts and healing Support Mages, Mistiles are the straw that breaks the Viking's back. Respect them, kill the Support Mage first, and they will never be a problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Mistiles damage structures or other creatures?

Mistiles belong to the Dverger faction and target the Dvergr's enemies. When Dvergr fight Seekers or other Mistlands creatures, Support Mages can send Mistiles after those creatures instead. Once you have provoked the Dvergr, they home in on you.

Do Mistiles drop anything when destroyed?

No, they are purely a combat hazard. The loot comes from the Dvergr Support Mage that summons them: Coins, Black Marble, Soft Tissue and, rarely, a Dvergr Trophy.

Can I parry or block a Mistile?

Yes, a shield blocks it like any other attack, and a Carapace Shield or Black Metal Shield absorbs it entirely. Popping it with a quick swing is usually better, since blocking costs stamina and you may need your guard for other attacks.

Do higher-star Support Mages summon stronger Mistiles?

No. Mistiles always have 1 HP and deal 150 Blunt at any star level. A 2-star Support Mage is more dangerous only because it has 1050 HP instead of 350, so it takes longer to kill.
