What Are Blobs and Oozers?
You are trudging through knee-deep Swamp water, eyes on a
Draugr across the clearing, when a green cloud erupts around you and your health starts ticking down. You just met a Blob. These piles of sentient ooze are a signature Swamp threat, and their bigger cousin, the Oozer, is arguably worse.
Blobs
Blobs are green, pulsating mounds of slime that hop toward you surprisingly fast. They belong to the Undead faction and appear:
- throughout the Swamp, day and night
- as fixed spawns inside Sunken Crypts
- during the Bonemass fight, summoned 4 at a time up to 8 total
They are simple enemies. The poison cloud is the danger, especially for unprepared first-time Swamp visitors.
Oozers
Oozers are the elite version: larger, wrapped in yellow-green gas, with much more health and damage. When one dies it splits into two Blobs, so every Oozer is really a fight against three enemies.
They spawn only at night in the open Swamp, plus a rare fixed spawn in front of some Sunken Crypt entrances. Those fixed Oozers do not despawn at dawn, so approach crypts carefully even by day.

The number one mistake new players make in the Swamp is entering without Poison Resistance Mead. Without it, a single Blob poison cloud deals 90 damage over time, which can easily kill an under-geared Viking. With the mead active, that same poison is reduced by 75%, making Blobs almost trivial. Always brew a batch before your first Swamp expedition.
How Poison Actually Works
The gas looks like a lingering green mist, but the cloud does not persist. It hits once, at the moment of release. Walk through a cloud already hanging in the air and you take no damage. The danger is being in range when the creature compresses and bursts.
Blob vs Oozer poison
- Blob: triggers within 2 meters, 4-meter radius, 90 Poison over time, 2-second cooldown.
- Oozer: triggers within 3 meters, 8-meter radius, 115 Poison, 4-second cooldown. The longer cooldown helps, but the doubled radius makes it much harder to stay safe.
Poison ignores walls
The cloud passes through wood and stone alike. Walls only help by keeping distance. During Swamp raids, Blobs and Oozers can poison your tamed Wolves and other animals right through your defenses.
“Blobs are only dangerous if you are unprepared. Poison Resistance Mead plus a blunt weapon plus timing their jump animation equals easy kills and free Iron.
How to Fight Blobs and Oozers Effectively
- 1
Always Drink Poison Resistance Mead First
Drink a Poison Resistance Mead before engaging anything in the Swamp. It lasts 10 minutes and cuts poison damage by 75%, making a Blob's 90 Poison manageable even in Troll Leather armor.
It must be active before you are poisoned. Drinking it afterwards does not reduce poison already on you.
- 2
Use Blunt Weapons for Maximum Damage
Blobs and Oozers take 1.5x Blunt and resist Slash and Pierce, so save your Sword and Bow for Draugr. A Bronze Mace or Iron Mace is ideal, and the mace secondary attack (middle-click) can one-shot Blobs with decent gear.
The Stagbreaker is excellent too: its AoE ground slam damages Blobs from outside their poison range.
- 3
Time Your Attacks Around Their Jump
Blobs hop toward you with a distinctive stretch, and there is a short delay between landing and the gas release. Rush in during that window, land a strong hit, then dodge-roll back out of range. With good timing you can kill a Blob without being poisoned, even without mead.
Be more careful with Oozers and their 8-meter radius. Keep distance and use ranged attacks or the Stagbreaker's AoE.
- 4
Handle the Oozer Split
A dying Oozer immediately splits into 2 Blobs. Back up before the killing blow so you are out of range when they appear, then handle them one at a time; the Stagbreaker's AoE can hit both. Clear other nearby enemies first so you are not fighting the Blobs alongside Draugr or
Skeletons. - 5
Alternative: Use Ranged Attacks or Terrain
Without mead, ranged combat is safest: arrows pick off Blobs before they close in. Terrain helps too. Put a fallen tree or rock between you, since they only release poison with clear line of sight. An Atgeir spin knocks Blobs away before they can burst.
Leaving Blobs alive inside Sunken Crypts counts toward the local spawn cap. This means fewer Blobs will spawn in the surrounding area, effectively suppressing outdoor spawns in a large radius. This even reduces the number of Blobs that Bonemass can summon. Some veterans intentionally leave crypt Blobs alive as a form of population control.
Where to Find Blobs and Oozers
Open Swamp
Blobs spawn across the Swamp at any hour. They count as an uncommon spawn, but you meet them constantly because they share a small biome with Draugr, Skeletons, Leeches and the rest. The local spawn cap of 2 Blobs means no big hordes in the wild.
Oozers are rarer: they spawn only at night, despawn at dawn and cap at 1 per area. A rare fixed spawn in front of Sunken Crypt entrances does not despawn at dawn.
Sunken Crypts
Inside crypts, Blobs are common fixed one-time spawns. Expect a few while you mine Muddy Scrap Piles, and remember that tight corridors leave little room to dodge.
Raids and boats
Drops, Loot, and Why You Should Farm Them
Veterans treat Blobs as a resource. Every Blob drops 1 Ooze and every Oozer 2, and Ooze goes into some of the best mid-game items.
Free Scrap Iron
Oozers have a 33% chance to drop Scrap Iron, one of the few
Iron sources besides Muddy Scrap Piles in Sunken Crypts. Their rarity makes it unreliable as a main source, but it is free Iron that adds up over many Swamp trips.
Blob Trophies
Both Blobs and Oozers have a 10% chance to drop a
Blob Trophy. Trophies feed the Blob Bomb system: buy vials from the Bog Witch and combine them with trophies into throwable bombs such as the
Blob Bomb: Poison, which spawn friendly Blobs to fight for you.

What to Craft with Ooze
Ooze weighs 0.5, stacks to 50 and is teleportable, so you can portal it home. It has three main uses:
Ooze Bomb: a thrown 4-meter poison cloud lasting 10 seconds. Anyone inside except the thrower takes 40 Poison over 7 seconds, refreshed while they stay in, for about 97 damage at most. Best against groups, since it is expensive for one target.
Poison Arrow: one of the strongest mid-game arrows, 26 Pierce plus 52 Poison, mostly as damage over time. It stacks with the Draugr Fang's innate poison. It needs
Obsidian from the Mountain and Workbench Level 3, so it comes later than Ooze Bombs.
Muckshake: a Swamp-tier stamina food, worth making if you run short on stamina food deep in the Swamp.

Poison Protection: Mead vs Root Mask
Poison Resistance Mead
The most accessible option. Brew the base in a
Mead Ketill from 10
Honey, 5
Thistle, 1
Neck Tail and 10
Coal, then ferment it for two in-game days into 6 meads. Each lasts 10 minutes and makes you very resistant to Poison (75% less damage). It is the strongest poison protection in the game, but temporary.
Root Mask
The
Root Mask gives permanent Poison resistance (50% less damage) while worn. It costs 10 Root, 10
Ancient Bark and 4 Leather Scraps at Workbench Level 2; Root drops from
Abominations in the Swamp. Weaker than mead, but it never runs out.
Which to use
Start with mead for early Swamp trips, then switch to the Root Mask once you have killed enough Abominations. For big fights like Bonemass, drink mead on top of your armor. The mead's very resistant effect overrides the mask's resistant effect rather than stacking with it.
