- Draugr have no elemental weakness: any Blunt, Slash or Pierce weapon works, but Fire is halved and Poison does nothing.
- Kill archers first, and sidestep their arrows rather than parrying 2-star shots.
- Destroy Body Piles quickly, or leave one behind a wall gap to farm
Entrails safely. - Every kill drops Entrails (1 / 2 / 4 by star level); 4 Entrails, 1
Boar Meat and 1
Thistle make 4
Sausages. - After
The Elder dies, Draugr can roam foggy nights outside the Swamp, so defend your base.
What Makes Draugr Dangerous
Draugr are the defining enemies of the Swamp and the main reason new players dread it. These bloated undead Vikings roam the waterlogged terrain in numbers, in two very different forms:
- Axe Draugr (75%) fight in melee.
- Archer Draugr (25%) shoot from up to 20 meters while you are knee-deep in water fighting their friends.
They don't stay in the Swamp
After you defeat The Elder, Draugr can spawn on foggy nights in the Meadows, Black Forest and even the Plains. A Draugr archer at your Black Forest base at 2 AM is a rude surprise. They despawn at dawn, but the damage is usually done by then.
Faction wars
Draugr belong to the Undead faction and fight other factions on sight. Veterans lure them into fights with
Abominations or across biome borders to start faction wars, which is often the smartest play when outnumbered.

Resistances and Damage Strategy
Draugr take normal damage from Blunt, Slash, Pierce, Frost, Lightning and Spirit. They resist Fire (0.5x) and ignore Poison, Chop and Pickaxe damage entirely. Unlike
Blobs that demand Blunt or Abominations that need Slash, Draugr don't punish any weapon choice.
Pick a weapon for the company they keep
- Sunken Crypts: a Mace, since Blobs share the halls and take 1.5x Blunt.
- Open Swamp: a Sword, which handles Abominations and Draugr equally well.
- Avoid: Fire and Poison weapons, which are halved or wasted.
Spirit and Body Piles
Spirit only does normal damage to Draugr, but it is the weakness of their spawner, the Body Pile (1.5x). A Spirit weapon such as Frostner, which also deals Frost, lets you fight the Draugr and break their Body Piles efficiently.
Don't try to parry a 2-star Draugr archer's shot in Iron Age gear. At 96 Pierce per arrow, even a successful parry with an
Iron Buckler can kill you below full health. Their arrows have travel time, so strafe perpendicular to the archer instead.
How to Fight Draugr: Axe vs Archer Tactics
Axe Draugr
Axe Draugr swing horizontally in a 90-degree arc and must be within 1.6 meters to attack, so side-dodging works well. Parrying is the most efficient answer: block just as the swing starts and your next hit deals 2.5x damage. A
Bronze Buckler or Iron Buckler handles 0-star and 1-star axe Draugr comfortably.
Avoid engaging several at once. Overlapping swings drain your stagger bar fast.
Archer Draugr
Archer arrows travel at 30 meters per second with a 2 to 20 degree spread, so they are not perfectly accurate at range. Draugr archers stand still while they have line of sight, which makes them easy targets if you keep moving:
- Strafe sideways while returning fire with your own bow.
- At close range, dodge-roll through their shots and close in with melee.
Mixed groups
Always kill the archers first. Step behind trees, ruins or terrain when an archer draws, then pop out and fire while it reloads. In Sunken Crypts the narrow corridors stop archers from kiting, but they can still snipe you through partially mined Muddy Scrap Piles.
Clearing Draugr from Sunken Crypts
- 1
Prepare before entering
Bring
Poison Resistance Mead (for Blobs), a melee weapon, a bow with arrows, a Buckler for parrying and enough
Wood for campfires. Carry the
Swamp Key from The Elder to unlock the iron gate entrance. - 2
Build a campfire at the entrance ledge
Nearly all Sunken Crypts have a raised entrance ledge that mobs cannot reach. A campfire here removes the Wet debuff and grants Rested (Comfort 3 gives 10 minutes), for a combined 115% boost to Stamina regeneration.
- 3
Listen for Body Piles before mining
A buzzing fly sound means a Body Pile in the next room. Leave a small gap in the Muddy Scrap Pile and shoot through it: bow shots and Stagbreaker's area hit reach Body Piles and Draugr without letting them through.
- 4
Destroy Body Piles immediately
Body Piles have 100 durability and spawn a new Draugr every 6 seconds (up to 2 active). They take 1.5x Spirit damage and resist Pierce and Fire (0.5x). Break them before fighting the spawns, or the waves never stop.
- 5
Clear one direction at a time
Always explore consistently left or right. Break green torches to mark cleared corridors, and fall back to the entrance ledge if you need to retreat.
“They return as Draugr, unholy walkers in ancient armour, creatures of rust and despair. Break them, bury them, let them know they are dead.
Where to Find Draugr
Open Swamp
Draugr are very common across the Swamp, with up to 3 active at once, and starred variants can appear.
Draugr Villages and Sunken Crypts
Both have one-time spawn points with no starred variants, so they are finite and less rewarding to farm. Crypts also hold Body Piles that keep producing more.
Draugr left alive inside a Sunken Crypt count toward the area's spawn cap, which suppresses outdoor spawns over a large surrounding area. Leaving a crypt half-cleared actually makes the Swamp above it safer.
Body Piles
Found in Swamps, Sunken Crypts and Mountain towers, Body Piles spawn a Draugr every 6 seconds while a player is within 20 meters and fewer than 2 Draugr are nearby:
- 43% melee Draugr
- 43% ranged Draugr
- 14%
Draugr Elite
Spawns have a 15% chance to be 1-star and 2.25% to be 2-star, making Body Piles the best source of high-star Draugr and their bigger Entrails drops.
Raids
Until you defeat Bonemass, the "A foul smell from the swamp" raid can send Draugr (up to 3, no stars) at your base. Defend it well or build outside the Swamp.
Drops: Entrails and the Draugr Trophy
Every Draugr drops Entrails, one of the most important Swamp-tier materials. It is guaranteed, with no RNG, and doubles with each star:
- 0-star: 1 Entrails
- 1-star: 2 Entrails
- 2-star: 4 Entrails
- Draugr Elite: 2 at 0 stars, doubling per star (8 at 2 stars)
Trophies
The
Draugr Trophy has a 10% drop chance at every star level and makes a good Item Stand decoration. The
Draugr Elite Trophy also drops at 10%; Body Piles are the best place to farm it.
Entrails are teleportable
Entrails weigh 0.5, stack to 50 and can go through portals. Unlike
Scrap Iron from the Crypts, you can portal them straight home, so a farming session never needs a boat run.
Why Sausages Are Worth the Effort
Sausages are one of the best Health foods of the Swamp tier, healing 3 HP per tick for 25 minutes. Only
Serpent Stew gives more Health at this stage, but it means hunting Sea Serpents, which is far harder. Each craft makes 4 Sausages, so every 4 Entrails stretch a long way.
Sausages stay useful into the Mountains alongside
Wolf Skewers and
Onion Soup. They also go into the
Swamp Dweller's Delight feast and can be fed to tamed Wolves. Put Draugr farming near the top of your Swamp list, right next to mining Scrap Iron.

Players struggling with Draugr archers often ignore the Root Armor set. The
Root Harnesk gives Pierce resistance that directly counters arrows, the
Root Mask adds Poison resistance, and the full set grants +15 Bow skill. If archers are your biggest Swamp problem, this set is the answer.
Draugr Elite: The Bigger, Meaner Cousin
Meeting a Draugr Elite unprepared is a quick way to lose your gear. These larger undead have glowing purple eyes and always carry swords, never bows. A 0-star Elite deals 58 Slash per swing and a 2-star hits for 116, with a 4-second cooldown and the same 90-degree arc as Draugr axes.
Where Elites spawn
- At night in the middle of the Swamp (limit 1, despawn at dawn)
- Rarely near Inverted Tower structures
- From Body Piles, at a 14% rate
Elite resistances match regular Draugr: resistant to Fire, immune to Poison, normal against everything else. The difference is double the health and much harder hits. In return they drop more Entrails, so a Body Pile that occasionally spawns an Elite boosts your farming yield noticeably.

Recommended Gear for Draugr Encounters
Gear for the open Swamp should handle the whole creature roster, not just Draugr:
- Mace: Blunt for Blobs and
Skeletons, fine against Draugr. - Sword or Axe: Slash for Abominations, fine against Draugr.
- Buckler: the 2.5x parry multiplier is your best offensive tool.
Armor
Iron Armor gives the most raw protection, but Root Armor is the smart pick when archers are the threat. Its Pierce resistance, Poison resistance and Bow skill bonus suit open-Swamp exploration, where you meet archers at range.
Mead and food
Always carry Poison Resistance Mead. Draugr deal no Poison, but the Blobs beside them do, and getting poisoned mid-fight is how most Swamp deaths happen. Stack Health food such as Sausages and
Minced Meat Sauce so you survive at least one hit from a starred archer.
Recommended Swamp Loadout for Draugr
If Draugr kill you at night, don't rush back. Tombstones never despawn, so sleep through the night first: mob spawns increase in darkness, and Cold stacks with Wet to cripple your regeneration. When you reach your body, the Corpse Run buff reduces skill drain and boosts your defenses for the recovery.
