- Voltures spawn endlessly over the Ashlands coast (up to 3 at a time) and once from Volture Nests.
- They are weak to Frost: a bow with
Frost Arrows drops them in a couple of hits. - Kill them over solid ground: drops that fall into the boiling sea are lost.
- Each kill gives
Volture Meat and a 50% chance at a
Volture Egg.
Eggs make
Roasted Crust Pie (100 stamina) and meat makes
Mashed Meat (100 health).
What Makes the Volture Special
The Volture looks unimpressive until you see what it drops. Its name blends "volcano" and "vulture", and it lives up to both: these scavenger birds circle the scorched Ashlands coast, nest among
Asksvin carrion and swoop on Vikings with surprising speed.
On their own, Voltures are far less dangerous than
Charred Warriors or a
Fallen Valkyrie. Their value is in the drops. Volture Eggs go into Roasted Crust Pie, the top stamina food of the Ashlands, and Volture Meat goes into Mashed Meat, one of the strongest health foods in the game.

Where to Find Voltures
Voltures appear in two ways, and the difference matters for farming.
The coast (infinite)
The reliable source. Voltures keep spawning at very low altitude above the water around the Ashlands, capped at 3 in the area but respawning indefinitely. You will see them circling over the boiling ocean or skimming the shoreline.
Volture Nests (one-time)
Small straw piles across the Ashlands, ringed by Asksvin carrion. Each nest spawns up to 4 Voltures, once only:
- First Volture: 100%
- Second: 75%
- Third: 50%
- Fourth: 25%
Smash the nest (50 durability) to reveal up to 6 Volture Eggs underneath, each with a 50% chance to appear. Nests give a nice first haul, but the coast is where long-term farming happens.
Build a large hunting platform on the outer spires of the Ashlands shoreline. Voltures spawn endlessly over the water and will swoop in to attack you on the platform. Make it wide enough that they land on it when attacking, otherwise eggs will drop into the boiling water and sink. Let them come to you rather than trying to snipe them over the ocean.
How to Fight Voltures
Voltures will rarely be what kills you in the Ashlands; that honor belongs to the Charred and the Fallen Valkyries. Their combat pattern is what makes them dangerous indirectly.
The hit-and-reposition pattern
A Volture flies behind you and rakes you with its talons. Turn to face it and it flies up and circles behind you again. They are among the fastest enemies in the game, able to outrun a lightly armored player even with full Wind Run, so chasing them on foot is hopeless.
The real danger is a Volture pecking your back while a Charred Warrior hits your front. It can block your movement and hold you in place for the other enemy to finish you, followed by a corpse run through lava.
How to kill them
- Bow: the best option. Frost Arrows deal 1.5x and bring one down in a couple of hits.
- Melee: wait for the lunge instead of chasing. A well-timed parry and heavy attack usually finishes one in one or two strikes.
- Fire: Voltures are afraid of it, like
Boars,
Necks, Greylings,
Greydwarfs,
Bears and
Viles. Campfires and torches help keep them away from a forward base.
Despite living around volcanoes, Voltures also take damage from the boiling water around the biome.
“Voltures are not the creature that kills you. They are the creature that gets you killed by something else while you are distracted.
Best Strategy for Farming Voltures
- 1
Clear Nests First for an Egg Stockpile
When you first arrive in the Ashlands, prioritize finding and destroying Volture Nests. Each nest can hold up to 6 eggs (50% chance per egg). Kill the Voltures that spawn near the nest, then smash the nest itself and the surrounding Asksvin carrion. Eggs must be picked up manually from the ground; they do not auto-loot. You will also get a pile of
Bone Fragments from the carrion. - 2
Build a Coastal Hunting Platform
For unlimited Volture farming, build a wide platform on the coastal spires or shoreline. Use
Grausten or
Black Marble for durability. Voltures spawn continuously over the water at low altitudes and will fly in to attack you. The platform needs to be large enough that when they swoop in, their drops land on solid ground rather than falling into the boiling ocean. - 3
Use Frost Weapons for Quick Kills
Voltures take 1.5x Frost damage, so Frost Arrows or any Frost weapon tear through them quickly. A bow is ideal because you can hit them mid-flight before they start repositioning. Two or three well-placed Frost Arrows should do it.

Collect and Sort Your Drops
Every Volture drops 1 Volture Meat. You also have a 50% chance at 1 Volture Egg, a 50% chance at 2 Feathers and a 10% chance at a Volture Trophy. Keep the meat and eggs for food, and Feathers are always useful for arrows.
Drop Table (0-Star)
| Volture Meat | 1 (100%) |
| Volture Egg | 1 (50%) |
| Feathers | 2 (50%) |
| Volture Trophy | 1 (10%) |
A common mistake is trying to snipe Voltures over the open water. When they die over the boiling ocean, their drops sink and are lost forever. This is especially painful when you lose a Volture Egg. Always position yourself so that Voltures die over solid ground or on your platform.
What to Do with Volture Drops
Both main drops feed top-tier Ashlands food, which is where the Volture earns its place in your routine.
Volture Meat
Cook raw Volture Meat on an
Iron Cooking Station (a wooden
Cooking Station will not work).
Cooked Volture Meat is a solid quick health food when you do not want to visit the
Cauldron.
The better use is Mashed Meat from a level 6 Cauldron, one of the best health foods in the game alongside
Piquant Pie. On a tanky melee build in the Ashlands, it should be a staple.
Volture Eggs
Volture Eggs are the key to Roasted Crust Pie and its huge 100 stamina, ideal for mages, stamina-hungry melee fighters and anyone who wants to keep swinging or casting.
Unlike Asksvin Eggs, Volture Eggs never hatch, so there is no reason to save them for breeding. You make the uncooked pie at a
Food Preparation Table and bake it in a
Stone Oven.
The cross-biome catch
The pie also needs ingredients from other biomes, which trips up players who rushed to the Ashlands:
Vineberry Cluster: from Ashlands ruins, and farmable from planted Ashvines.
Barley Flour: Plains
Barley ground in a
Windmill.

Effort scales with reward: Cooked Volture Meat needs only a cooking station, Mashed Meat a level 6 Cauldron and Asksvin Tail, and Roasted Crust Pie a multi-step chain across three biomes.
Volture Nests: Loot Them and Move On
Should you leave nests standing as a Volture farm? No. Nests are not true spawners: they spawn their Voltures once when the area first loads, and that is it.
How to loot a nest
- Kill everything around it.
- Break the nest with physical attacks. It has only 50 durability but is immune to Fire, Poison and Spirit.
- Pick up the eggs from the ground; they do not auto-loot.
- Smash the surrounding Asksvin carrion for Bone Fragments.
Each nest can also spawn up to 6 carrion piles (the first guaranteed, the rest at 50% each). That makes nests easy to spot from a distance: a straw pile ringed by skeletal remains.
Volture Trophy and Other Uses
The
Volture Trophy drops 10% of the time, uncommon but not rare if you farm the coast, and it looks good on an Item Stand.
Feathers are less critical in the Ashlands than in earlier biomes but still useful for arrows.
Think of the Volture as a flying resource node: never ignore it, never fear it. Set up your coastal platform, keep a stack of Frost Arrows handy and you will never run out of the ingredients for the Ashlands' best food.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Volture Nests respawn Voltures over time?
No. Volture Nests spawn their initial Voltures once and never again. They are not creature spawners. Destroy every nest you find for the eggs hidden underneath. For infinite Volture farming, hunt them along the Ashlands coastline where they spawn continuously at low altitudes.
Can Volture Eggs be hatched like Asksvin Eggs?
No. Unlike Asksvin Eggs or Chicken Eggs, Volture Eggs cannot be hatched. They are a crafting material only, used to make Uncooked Roasted Crust Pie at the Food Preparation Table.
Why can't I see any recipes for Volture Eggs?
Volture Eggs are a cross-biome ingredient. The Roasted Crust Pie recipe requires Vineberry Clusters (from the Ashlands) and Barley Flour (from Plains Barley processed in a Windmill). If you rushed to the Ashlands without fully exploring the Plains and setting up Barley farming, you will not see the recipe yet. You also need a Food Preparation Table, which requires a Cauldron upgrade.
Are Volture Eggs a finite resource?
Nest eggs are finite, since nests do not regenerate. Coastal Voltures are infinite, though, and each has a 50% chance to drop an egg. With a coastal hunting platform you can farm eggs indefinitely, and most players end up with more than they need.
